⚠️ Transportation Strike Alert (Sciopero)
- Sept 7-17: The Perugia-Terontola train line has reopened after summer works, but slower service and some replacement buses continue through Sept 17.
- Sept 5-Oct 31: Ongoing maintenance on the Florence-Rome mainline train route (the Camucia-Cortona stop) is causing schedule changes and slightly longer travel times in both directions.
- Sept 7-8: A 24-hour national rail strike is planned (9:18pm Sept 7 to about 9:00pm Sept 8). Some guaranteed minimum service usually runs 6-9am and 6-9pm.
- Sept 26: A national multi-sector strike is planned; exact hours not yet published, but some rail disruption is expected.

How Taxis Actually Work in Cortona
Cortona taxis cannot be booked in advance. There is no reservation desk: on the day, you call the central number, and if a car is free, it comes. That works for a short trip within town, but it isn’t guaranteed, especially outside peak hours.

For a guaranteed pickup at a fixed time, for example an early morning train or a set airport transfer, you want an NCC (licensed private hire) driver instead. How It Works
Book in advance. NCC operators in Italy cannot pick up passengers on the street or at a rank: every journey must be pre-booked. Contact your driver directly by WhatsApp, or message Arpi and he’ll sort it for you.
Pricing is between you and the driver. There are no fixed or published rates. You agree the fare directly with your driver before travel. Always confirm before you get in the car.
Always ask for a receipt. Any licensed NCC operator is legally required to issue a ricevuta fiscale on request. A legitimate driver will never refuse.
Cash is standard. Most operators prefer cash. If you need to pay by card, confirm this in advance. It’s worth having €20-50 in cash on arrival.
Late arrivals. The local bus from Camucia station stops running at around 8 pm. If your train or flight arrives after that, a private transfer is your only option to reach Cortona. Plan ahead.
